Is your horse the love of your life? Short answer, probably.

A quick Google search about “The One,” will bring up a ton of results on how to identify the love of your life. The answer ranges from being comfortable with your vulnerability to feeling an extreme sense of familiarity. These relationships can be romantic or platonic- but you and your horse likely hit a lot of the requirements. Here are three ways to tell if your horse is the love of your life.

1. You're vulnerable with each other.

Vulnerability and riding a horse go hand-in-hand. You likely take the welfare of your horse into consideration before making training decisions. While you might be prepared to raise the jump height, your horse may not be. On the flip side, your horse may be more than ready to go for longer rides- but you aren’t! In any relationship, there is give and take. A steady training schedule and a mutual understanding will strengthen your bond.

2. You spoil them.

Your human counterparts are probably expecting a box of chocolates for the upcoming holiday- but you’ve already spent the money on sugar cubes, fresh fruit and cookies!

Your horse surely appreciates every snack you get for them, but so much more goes into their care. New and improved tack, horse massages (like from Canter Care!), leisurely trail rides over intense training sessions. Making sure your horse is well cared-for edges out the top of your list of priorities.

3. You spend as much time together as possible.

How early do you get up to go to the stables? Even if you aren’t the primary caretaker, your horse’s welfare is probably one of the first thoughts to pop-up when your alarm goes off. Morning rides, extended walks, mutual grooming, organizing the barn, braiding manes and tales- these are just some of the ways you lengthen the hours you get to spend with your horse.

If these three points describe you, your horse just might be the love of your life. Have you found your horse soulmate? Tag us in your selfies on Instagram! Use the hashtag #OEFSoulmate.
